Qur’anic schools represent a fundamental pillar of knowledge and learning, and a prominent expression of Islamic civilization and culture. They serve as an intellectual and moral resource that nourishes minds and guides them toward reform and advancement. Throughout history, these schools have stood as a key symbol of Islamic identity. They also played a central role in the construction of the Muslim community through support provided by endowments and governmental funding. This study seeks to shed light on a distinctive model of traditional Qur’anic schools in northern Nigeria—schools that have managed to survive across generations despite the absence of government funding. The research adopts a descriptive–analytical approach and draws on the researcher’s own experience as someone who was raised within this educational environment. The main findings indicate that these schools continue to embody a Sufi orientation and remain active in disseminating Islamic culture and strengthening religious awareness within Nigerian society. The study also concludes that their continuity from their early beginnings until today—despite the lack of governmental support—is largely due to the absence of formal tuition fees, as they have depended instead on gifts and charitable donations. The study proposes developing this educational model by reducing harsh disciplinary practices, eliminating begging entirely, and incorporating both religious and worldly sciences within the curriculum.
